Our History

With a history spanning more than 60 years, MGE is the former Schneider Electric switchboard manufacturing division that was the amalgamation of Merlin Gerin (orginally A&G Price) and Telemecanique (originally Turnbull & Jones Controls).

MGE has several standard switchboards readily available for manufacture. These include Motor Control Centres (withdrawable, demountable or fixed), Main Distribution Switchboards and Power Factor Correction units.

In addition to the above standard lines, MGE can accommodate special requirements through several other options. MGE can also assist with on-site engineering installations modifications and retrofits of switchboards where needed.

MGE is comprised of staff with a high degrees of engineering capability. A number of the staff are from the original Turnbull & Jones Controls and A&G Price companies bringing a wealth of technical and practical experience to MGE. MGE has specialist engineering, project management and test technician staff in-house.

MGE predominantly uses Schneider Electric equipment to manufacture switchboards but can source alternative product where needed. MGE also manufactures Schneider Electric medium voltage switchgear.

The business was acquired by McKay in 2010 and became The McKay Group’s official switchboard division, enabling McKay to provide full electrical design and manufacturing services in-house.

Professionalism and Safety

At MGE, our utmost priority is the Health and Safety of all stakeholders involved in our projects. We have implemented a comprehensive system to support this commitment. Our Health and Safety system has received independent accreditation to ISO 45001 from Telarc, and we are further certified by Impac and Sitewise.

To ensure the well-being of our workforce and the general public, we develop detailed Health and Safety Plans for each project. These plans encompass crucial elements such as hazard identification, incident reporting and investigation, site safety meetings, and safety training, in compliance with statutory processes. We place great emphasis on continuously training our team members and providing them with HSQE refreshers regularly to ensure they possess the necessary skills to perform their duties safely.

To enhance our HSE processes, we utilise a cloud-based HSE app called SiteDocs. This app allows our personnel, subcontractors, and clients to access all HSE documentation, including Job Risk Assessments (JRAs), policies, and completed forms. The app provides real-time tracking of individuals' safety, issuing instant notifications to the relevant parties regarding job status and compliance. SiteDocs boasts a powerful graphics and analytics engine that instills confidence in our clients, showcasing our ability to deliver large-scale contracts in a safe and transparent manner.
